The most discerning men and women from Philadelphia and the Main Line have chosen D&B Tailor as their custom bespoke and couture clothier for decades.
In today’s post, we’d like to share with you many reasons why our customers love coming back to D&B Tailors. We thought the perfect way to do it would be letting our longtime clients (and friends) tell you what they think themselves. We asked four customers to share their thoughts, experience and a little bit more on a special relationship they have with our Master Designer, Gabe D’Annunzio, as well as the rest of the D&B Tailors family.
First up is Billy Olson – who’s been a longtime customer of ours, over 40 years and counting! Here’s what he had to say about his custom clothing from D&B Tailors:
“I met Gabe when I was about 12 or 13 years old. My dad used to come in here and it was really love at first sight. My dad thought the world of him as did I. (…) When I got out in the business, I first started having Gabe make my shirts because I was a fit guy, and I was athletic. It was hard to get shirts off the rack. He took good care of me and then when I got to my late 20s, Gabe began to make all my clothes, all my pants, my shirts, my suits. We’ve just had this lifelong relationship, I’ve known him over 43 – 44 years.
The one thing about Gabe I’d say is that he just puts so much love and passion into his clothing. It’s not only the style and the fabric and the tailoring. You can feel that vibe, you can feel the love, and I think that’s his big differentiator.
People give me compliments because my clothes look well-fitted, it’s beautiful fabric, and I think more importantly, it reflects who I am. It reflects a positiveness to the world, a good outlook, respect for people. I like to dress elegantly, not ostentatiously, and so I think that’s a good balance for me and people feel that, too. I think it’s not only the physical compliments that they give me. It also reflects a great outlook on life in a sense of positiveness and openness and that’s what I’m trying to exhume.

To experience buying a suit from Gabe is just wonderful. Even when I lived in London, I would have Gabe send me the fabrics. Then when I came back over, I would go through, pick out the fabric and we made the suit. It’s a creative process. We choose, we decide, he puts it together and we make modifications. It’s an iterative process and at the end, you have this wonderful product that’s bigger than a suit. It does not only fit you, but also reflects your lifestyle, where you are, what you want to do. It’s interesting when I look at the suits we made in my twenties and thirties to what they are now. We evolved with the times, yet we’ve never really done it for fashion.
It’s about style, a distinctive style. Gabe captures your style and watches you evolve. He continues to capture your style so it’s not only a physical experience. It’s a great emotional experience to be with Gabe, and go through that process.
I recommend Gabe to so many people and I think some of Gabe’s best customers today are from people that ask me who has made your clothes. They like the way they look on me and how I carry myself, so it’s not really the law of promotion. I’m not promoting Gabe. They’ll say something, I’ll say: Well, you should go see Gabe, he will take marvelous care for you. He’s got all world skills, he’s an all-world craftsman, and that’s unique to this world. They don’t make people like Gabe. Because he’s been trained since he’s a little boy literally to do this and bring his joy and love in the world through clothing. So it’s the law of attraction. I’ve brought many customers to Gabe. He is truly one of my best friends in life.”
